The Interior Ministry warned about a new method of fraud with cryptocurrencies

Scammers have come up with a new way to deceive Russians, based on cryptocurrency, using the screen demonstration function. This was announced on March 27 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

They told about the victim from Moscow, who was contacted by the attackers. They convinced the girl to dictate the code from an SMS message, blocked her account on Gosuslugi and sent her a message with a fake technical support number.

Tech Support sent the Muscovite to an employee of the department for combating fraud, where the girl was convinced that all her savings were in danger, and recommended transferring funds to cryptocurrency for safety.

"In order to reduce vigilance, the attackers did not ask to transfer anything anywhere, they talked about the security of crypto wallets and reliable protection with a seed phrase (a unique sequence of random words necessary to access a crypto wallet. — Ed.)," it is noted in the Telegram channel of the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

As explained in the department, when registering with a cryptocurrency organization, the scammers convinced the girl to turn on the screen demonstration on her smartphone, thereby gaining the opportunity to seize the funds.

Make no mistake about it: scammers have discovered security holes in small banks.

According to him, the main thing is to use links only from official sources or trusted services. It is absolutely not necessary to rely on private Telegram channels, follow links from cryptochats or comments on social networks.
