Macron called the issue of lifting sanctions against Russia premature

French President Emmanuel Macron said that the discussion of lifting sanctions against Russia is possible only within the framework of a long-term peace agreement, and not a temporary ceasefire.
"For me, the issue of sanctions should be raised within the framework of a long—term and reliable peaceful settlement," Macron said on March 26 at a press conference with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in Paris. The broadcast was carried out on the official account of the Elysee Palace on the social network X (former. Twitter).
The President noted that the issue of sanctions will arise at some point, "but it is premature."
The French president also noted that Russia "will not dictate the terms of peace."
Earlier, on March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian entrepreneurs had successfully adapted to the Western sanctions mechanisms by creating alternative ways of interacting with foreign partners. The Head of state called the restrictions an additional catalyst for positive changes in the Russian economy.
