Zakharova accused previous US administrations of destroying relations with Russia

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington remain extremely difficult due to the long-standing policies of previous American administrations. She told RIA Novosti about this on March 27, commenting on the tasks of the new Russian ambassador to the United States, Alexander Darchiev.
"Like any ambassador who is sent and approved by the president for this position, he implements the Russian foreign policy course in the host country," Zakharova said.
Also, according to her, Darchiev will need to work on resuming contacts with the American side. As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out, the situation in this particular case is extremely difficult, given that for so many years previous American administrations "destroyed these bilateral relations."
"Among other things, it is necessary to restore the work of the embassy in the sense that it was blocked for almost many years by the previous administration. There are a lot of tasks, especially in this area," Zakharova added.
On March 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexander Darchiev, Director of the North Atlantic Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as Russia's ambassador to the United States. He also became Russia's permanent observer at the Organization of American States in Washington.
On February 28, the United States issued an agrement for the appointment of Darchiev as the new Russian ambassador to Washington. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the note was handed over during negotiations between the delegations of Russia and the United States in Istanbul on February 27. It was clarified that Darchiev's departure to Washington is expected in the near future.
