Russians have been warned about an increasingly popular fraud scheme using house chats. By registering in them under the guise of tenants, the attackers place ads that hide phishing links that steal personal data. This was announced on March 27 by the Russian Interior Ministry.

The agency clarified that such scammers publish ads in chat rooms, offering to give away unnecessary equipment or furniture for free. To gain trust, they send potential "buyers" confirmation photos or videos of the product.

"On the eve of the meeting, the fake "neighbor" apologizes and claims that he can only send the equipment by courier. To arrange the delivery, he suggests clicking on the link," RIA Novosti quotes the agency's materials.

After clicking on the link, as the newspaper writes.Ru", the user's phone is infected with malicious software that steals personal data and provides fraudsters with access to payment means.

On March 22, the Interior Ministry reported on a fraudulent scheme involving the sale of medicines at discounted prices. According to the agency, the attackers contact pensioners by phone and offer them to purchase medicines at discounted prices. After receiving the payment, the attackers hand over dummy medicines to customers or leave them without anything at all.
