Washington preferred to start the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict by discussing a moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea, as this is the easiest way to achieve. This was announced on March 26 by US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.
"The reason you're starting with this [moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea] is because it's a low-hanging fruit. This is probably the most easily achievable thing," he stressed on the Fox News channel.
According to Kellogg, the settlement of territorial issues will be a much more complex process. At the same time, he noted that all efforts of the parties are aimed at achieving a complete ceasefire in Ukraine.
"And I think this is a positive first step. It will allow us to move on to the next stage, which will eventually lead, as I believe, to a comprehensive ceasefire," he explained.
At the same time, as the Newspaper clarified.However, Kellogg added that neither Kiev nor Moscow would be satisfied with the final agreement to resolve the conflict.
"Both sides won't get everything they want," he said.
The Special Envoy also said that the United States would study the demands of the parties and submit them to the American leader for decision-making.
During the talks between Russia and the United States in Riyadh on March 24, the parties agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea, eliminating the use of force and preventing the use of commercial vessels for military purposes. On March 25, Trump said at the White House that the implementation of the truce agreement in the Black Sea is the least of all the problems in resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, noted that Russia and the United States would continue contacts after the talks in Riyadh.
