Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday, March 26, expressed condolences over the death of Russian journalists in the special military operation zone as a result of attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

A corresponding appeal was sent to Konstantin Ernst, General Director of Channel One, Alexey Pimanov, President of Krasnaya Zvezda, and Vladimir Tyulin, General Director of Izvestia.

"On behalf of the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on my own behalf, I express my deep condolences to you and all your colleagues in connection with the tragic death of war correspondent of Channel One A.A. Prokofieva, correspondent of Izvestia A.S. Fedorchak, operator of the Zvezda TV channel A.A. Panov and the driver of the film crew A. Sirkeli,— he wrote..

Lavrov noted that the work of war correspondents plays an important role in spreading truthful information about the events in the area of their own and is an example of honest and selfless journalism.

He also described the series of murders of Russian military personnel as evidence of the readiness of the Ukrainian Nazis to violate international humanitarian law and commit crimes against civilians.

"I grieve with you. I ask you to convey my sincere words of sympathy and support to their families and friends," he said.

On March 24, Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak was killed in the special operation zone. He worked in the Luhansk People's Republic and the Kharkiv region. Fedorchak's latest report on the situation in the Kupyansk area aired on March 23. A memorial was erected in the Izvestia News Center building as a sign of mourning for the deceased correspondent.

At the same time, on March 24, Andrey Panov, a cameraman for the Zvezda TV channel, and Alexander Sirkeli, the driver of the film crew, died in the special operation zone. They worked on the set together with Fedorchak. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case into the deaths of journalists.

On March 26, it became known that Anna Prokofieva, a military correspondent for Channel One, was killed while performing her professional duty in the Belgorod Region, and cameraman Dmitry Volkov was also injured.
