Guterres welcomed the talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine on the Black Sea

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres praised the agreements reached between the delegations of Russia, the United States and Ukraine during the talks in Riyadh. This was announced on March 26 by his representative, Stephane Dujarric.

"The UN Secretary—General welcomes the negotiations and agreements reached between the United States, the Russian Federation and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia," he said at a press briefing broadcast on the UN official website.

According to Dujarric, the deal on freedom of navigation in the Black Sea to protect civilian vessels and port infrastructure will be a significant contribution to global food security and supplies.

It is specified that the UN will also continue to participate in the implementation of the memorandum of understanding with the Russian side to facilitate access of food products and fertilizers of the Russian Federation to international markets in order to achieve measures in the field of global food security.

Dujarric added that Guterres is ready to provide mediation assistance to support peace initiatives.

It became known what Moscow and Washington agreed on during 12-hour consultations in Riyadh.

Negotiations between the Russian and American expert groups in Riyadh took place on March 24. They lasted 12 hours. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, noted the day before that Russia and the United States would continue contacts after the talks in Riyadh.

During the negotiations, Russia and the United States agreed to ensure safe navigation, exclude the use of force and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea. America will continue to facilitate negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine with a view to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Prior to that, on March 25, Trump said at the White House that great progress had been made with both Russia and Ukraine during the negotiations in Riyadh. According to him, the discussions are progressing positively. The US President also noted that the implementation of the armistice agreement in the Black Sea is the least of all problems.
