- Former Moldovan President Voronin called on the opposition to advocate for the liberation of Hutsuls

Former Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin called on all those who call themselves opponents of the current regime in the republic to take a principled position and advocate for the immediate release of the head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Evgenia Gutsul. The corresponding statement was published on the website of the Communist Party of Moldova on March 26.
"It's not just about Yevgenia Hutsul, but about the exorbitant hatred of the peaceful and hardworking Gagauz people, who have never given reason to doubt their Moldovan patriotism," Voronin said.
The ex-president called the detention of the head of the autonomous region a treacherous provocation of the ruling regime. According to him, the National Anti-Corruption Center has no legitimate grounds for applying any sanctions against the Hutsul.
Voronin also called for the termination of political criminal cases and the return of Moldova to the legal and constitutional field.
The detention of Hutsul at the Chisinau airport without explanation became known on March 25. The Pobeda block reported that the head of Gagauzia was supposed to fly to Istanbul, where she had meetings scheduled. Then, on March 26, the head of the autonomy was taken to the National Police of Moldova, and her lawyers are with her. It is specified that law enforcement agencies have pulled additional forces to the building.
Later, the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office reported that Hutsul's detention was linked to a ban on her leaving the country.
