Since the beginning of 2025, 419 emergency trees have been removed in the forests of the Moscow region. This is reported by the regional Forestry Committee.

Most of the emergency trees were removed from the territory of the Volokolamsk forestry — 109. 99 trees were removed from the territory of Podolsk forestry, Stupinsky — 65 and Istra — 56.

"A tree is considered an emergency and it is being cut down if it is located no further than 100 m from a populated area and has structural flaws, such as rot and root breakage, its dangerous tilt can lead to the fall of the entire tree or part of it," the department explained.

According to the online publication Podmoskovye Segodnya, the decision to cut down is made after a thorough examination, which in turn is carried out on the basis of consideration of citizens' appeals.

On March 20, it was reported that the fire season had begun in the forests of the Moscow region. This year it happened earlier than usual due to the abnormally warm winter and low rainfall.
