Turkey plans to develop a nuclear reactor and create a nuclear technology park in the country. This was stated on March 26 by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the presentation of the Strategy for the Development of Industry and Technology until 2030 at the presidential complex in Ankara.
"We will create a nuclear technology park that will provide a big step forward in the field of nuclear energy and develop a domestic modular nuclear reactor," TRT Haber TV channel quoted him as saying.
In addition, the head of state noted that a National Quantum Institute will be created, which will strengthen the human resources and research infrastructure of our country in the field of quantum technologies.
Erdogan also announced the construction of a polar research base in Antarctica, where to date we have conducted nine successful research expeditions.
Earlier, on December 12, 2024, turbine installation was completed in Turkey at Unit 1 of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). In September, the dome of the outer protective shell, which is an important safety element, was installed at the Akkuyu NPP. After concreting, the walls of the protective dome will be 1.5 m thick. The station is also equipped with an inner shell that serves as a support for pipelines and a polar crane.
On June 7, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Rosatom State Corporation, said that the launch of the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP would take place in 2025. On April 23, Rosatom held a ceremony to ship a set of heavy equipment from the Russian Atommash plant for the third power unit of the Turkish NPP.
