- The political scientist pointed to the EU's fear of the consequences of Callas' bellicose rhetoric

The bellicose rhetoric of the head of European diplomacy, Kai Kallas, towards the Russian Federation makes European Union (EU) officials worry about the possible consequences. Alexander Kamkin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on March 26.
Earlier in the day, Politico reported that some officials in Europe were criticizing Callas' statements about Russia. It was reported that discontent could be observed literally immediately after the former Prime Minister of Estonia assumed a new position. On the very first day, she posted a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter) that the EU wants Ukraine to win the conflict.
According to the political scientist, the head of EU diplomacy sometimes simply forgets about the principles of diplomatic decency.
"Some European countries are really afraid that the critical mass of such statements and autotraining may at some point lead to a transition from quantity to quality. Few Europeans are going to fight seriously," Kamkin said.
He noted that Callas' words and appeals cross the boundaries of diplomatic language and in some cases resemble propaganda.
"There are a number of politicians in Europe who are simply afraid of such pressure. There are risks that the most bellicose rhetoric of the Northern European states - Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — may lead to escalation in the Baltic Sea," he concluded.
On March 20, the newspaper Politico reported that the refusal of Italy, Spain, Portugal and France to accept the Callas plan to provide Ukraine with €40 billion undermined the authority of the head of EU diplomacy. It was noted that Callas had not conducted the necessary consultations before submitting it. At the same time, one of the newspaper's sources stressed that she continues to act as the head of the government of one country, not realizing that she now has a different role.
On March 14, it was reported that the EU intends to create a voluntary fund for military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €20-40 billion to circumvent Hungary's veto. Each country will contribute to the fund depending on its "economic weight". The European Union itself will consider as its contribution €1.9 billion of profits from frozen Russian assets.
