The Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Mordovia has stopped the criminal activities of three prisoners involved in an extremist organization. This was announced on March 26 by the press service of the department.

According to the investigation, a 53-year-old inmate of one of the Mordovian correctional colonies created a cell of an extremist organization banned in the Russian Federation, giving himself the functions of a leader.

"Together with two accomplices, they promoted prison and thievish traditions, carried out illegal collection of funds, hindered the work of correctional officers and provoked other prisoners to violence," the press service noted.

It is specified that narcotic substances were found in a parcel with food for one of the defendants. The defendant was charged with crimes under Part 1 of Article 282.2 ("Organization of the activities of an extremist organization") and Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted illegal acquisition, possession without the purpose of selling narcotic drugs").

The defendants admitted their guilt. The court sentenced the cell's organizer to 6 years and 1 month in a high—security penal colony, and his two followers to 2 years and 1 month in a special regime.

On March 6, the FSB Public Relations Center reported that employees of the Department for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol had detained a Russian citizen on suspicion of publicly calling for the murder of law enforcement officers. A criminal case has been opened against the man under Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls for extremist activities committed using the Internet").
