Szijjarto expressed hope for a long-term ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine

The agreement on the mutual refusal of Russia and Ukraine from attacks on energy infrastructure has significantly increased the level of energy security in Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic, said on March 26.
"The peace talks between the United States and Russia are going well. Both the American and Russian sides approach the negotiations with good will and good intentions. It is obvious that both the Russians and the Americans are interested in the early success of the peace talks," Szijjarto said in a video message broadcast by M1 TV channel.
According to the politician, the peace talks between the Russian Federation and the United States fully meet the interests of the Hungarian people, including because an agreement was reached on a mutual ban on attacks on the energy infrastructure of Moscow and Kiev, which is of great importance because Hungary buys both oil and natural gas from Russia.
"Today I was able to make sure that Russia is also interested in the success of these negotiations, so there is great hope for achieving a sustainable and long—term ceasefire and concluding a peace agreement," Szijjarto added.
During talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump on March 18, the Russian leader supported the idea of Moscow and Kiev mutually rejecting attacks on energy infrastructure. However, after the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a deliberate drone attack on an energy facility in the village of Kavkazskaya, Krasnodar Territory.
On March 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out Kiev's incompetence after the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the Sudzha gas measuring station in the Kursk region on March 21.
On the same day, Szijjarto said that the European Union should not hinder negotiations between Russia and the United States on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Szijjarto also expressed gratitude to the American leader and stressed that such negotiations were impossible before he assumed the presidency.
