The Moscow City Court left the ex-mayor of Sochi Kopaigorodsky in jail

The Moscow City Court has kept former Sochi mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky in custody until May. His lawyer Ivan Mironov informed Izvestia about this on March 26.
"Today, the appeal of the ex-mayor against the measure of restraint was considered. Kopaigorodsky's defense insisted on any measure not related to imprisonment," the lawyer informed.
As a result, the Moscow City Court, having considered the appeals of Kopaigorodsky's defense, upheld the detention order for another three months.
The ex-mayor of Sochi was detained on September 25, 2024 in a special military operation zone, and he was arrested on the same day. According to the Russian Interior Ministry, he is suspected of receiving a bribe of 43 million rubles from a businessman through his wife.
The wife of the ex-mayor of Sochi was detained in November 2024. Yanina was placed under house arrest, and her credit accounts worth 100 million rubles were seized. Lawyer Mironov clarified that Yanina is suspected of embezzlement with her husband. She is accused of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Embezzlement or embezzlement").
On March 6, Kopaigorodskaya was transferred to a pre-trial detention center. At the same time, it became known that new episodes had appeared in the couple's case — according to Yanina's lawyer, Elizaveta Metkina, her client could be charged with mediating her husband in receiving bribes from Sochi developers, as well as exerting pressure on two witnesses.
