- The media reported on the disagreement of the states of southern Europe with the plan for the rearmament of the EU

The authorities of Spain, Italy and France are abandoning the plan for the rearm Europe proposed by the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on March 26, citing sources.
It is noted that these states reject the European Commission's program to increase defense spending through loans, fearing an increase in the already heavy debt burden. Such a situation risks disrupting Brussels' plans to send weapons from Europe to Ukraine.
Some EU countries are avoiding further debt growth, notes "Газета.Ru ".
It is clarified that the authorities in Madrid and Rome have not confirmed whether they will apply a state of emergency, as the newspaper notes, they are stalling in the hope that the head of the European Commission will soften his position on defense debt obligations before the next summit of the leaders of the bloc in June.
"The von der Leyen plan is almost entirely based on the US national debt," Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in an interview with the publication.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on March 18 that Europe should have strong defenses by 2030, which requires rearmament and the development of capabilities for reliable deterrence. In particular, investments in the production of air and missile defense systems, as well as all modern types of drones and anti-drone systems, should be increased for this purpose.
