The Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia has opened a criminal case after the death of Channel One war correspondent Anna Prokofieva. This was announced on March 26 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko.
"The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case on this fact on the grounds of crimes under Articles 205 and 144 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act; obstruction of the legitimate professional activity of a journalist")," the agency's Telegram channel says.
Also, at the moment, the circumstances of the incident are being established to determine those involved in the crime.
Earlier that day, Channel One's war correspondent Anna Prokofieva was killed in the line of professional duty by a Ukrainian mine explosion in the Belgorod region. Cameraman Dmitry Volkov was also injured. The press service of Channel One noted that the journalist died shortly before her birthday.
Prokofieva was 35 years old, she was fluent in Spanish and had worked for the Spanish-language editorial office of Sputnik for more than two years. In 2023, the journalist joined Channel One as a military commander and reported from the special operation zone.
