Mishustin spoke about the drastic reduction of poverty in the Russian Federation

The poverty rate in Russia has been drastically reduced and amounted to 7.2% by the end of 2024. This was announced on March 26 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during the presentation of the annual report on the work of the executive branch in the State Duma.
"Starting in 2023, we have a single allowance at the birth of a child, 50%, 75% or 100% of the additional payment is at the cost of living, everyone is covered. The result is a poverty rate of 7.2%. We have drastically reduced poverty in the country," he said.
The Head of Government recalled that 2024 was declared the Year of the Family. According to Mishustin, therefore, the family sphere was given as much attention as possible.
"That's right: the more children there are, the higher the level of state support," the politician said.
Mishustin noted that starting in 2026, the country will introduce a family payment for parents. If their income is below one and a half subsistence levels in the presence of two or more children, the personal income tax rate will be up to 6%.
The Prime Minister also recalled that since 2022, the indexation of maternity capital has been carried out. The head of government drew attention to the fact that by the time of his last year's report, the maximum amount of pregnancy benefits reached 565 thousand rubles, and at the moment the figure is approaching 800 thousand rubles. A social contract and a single allowance help parents overcome difficulties.
Earlier, on March 22, it was reported that Boris Chernyshov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma representing the Liberal Democratic Party, proposed to abolish the criteria of need for large families when receiving benefits. According to him, this measure will be an important step to strengthen social support measures and strengthen the institution of the family in the Russian Federation.
