The detention of the head of Gagauzia, Yevgenia Hutsul, is another pressure on the autonomy. Dmitry Konstantinov, Chairman of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, informed Izvestia about this on March 26.

"This is another pressure on Gagauzia. This is not the first day that the pressure from the center has started. We have been noticing almost more than four years since Mrs. [Moldovan President Maia] Sandu won the elections together with the PACE team. They are doing everything possible to infringe on Gagauzia," he said.

According to Konstantinov, Sandu regularly seeks to "incite" Gagauzia against the Moldovan people at his meetings. In addition, the leadership of Gagauzia is now trying not to talk about autonomy at all.

"They don't take into account autonomy, our decisions. <...> The same thing threatens everyone, because our views are different, our positions are different. If we go against the leadership's position, then we are enemies. If we do not call the Russian Federation an aggressor, then we are not with them. But for some reason they see the Russian Federation as an aggressor," said the chairman of the National Assembly.

He pointed to the feelings of people who notice the pressure on autonomy and do not want to quarrel with Russia. But Gagauzia will not give up, Konstantinov stressed.

"What our leadership wants, they won't succeed, they have to find other points. And don't quarrel with anyone. Neither with the Romanians, our neighbors, nor with Ukraine, nor with Europe. Don't be friends with someone against someone. This is exactly the path we follow," he concluded.

The detention of Hutsul at the Chisinau airport without explanation became known on March 25. The Pobeda block reported that the head of Gagauzia was supposed to fly to Istanbul, where she had meetings scheduled. According to the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office, the politician was detained after that. how did her name turn up on the list of people banned from leaving the country?

Later, the head of Gagauzia was taken to the National Anti-Corruption Center (NAC) of Moldova, and her lawyers are with her. Supporters of the Hutsul and the Moldovan opposition gathered outside the building, and the authorities pulled police forces into the area. Later, the Prosecutor General's Office of Moldova reported that the detention of the head of Gagauzia was connected with the ban on her departure from the republic.
