Gas supplies from Russia to Hungary reached a record 8.6 billion cubic meters. m in 2024. The relevant information was published on March 26 on the government's website.

It is specified that as of March 1 of this year, the supply level amounted to 1.18 billion cubic meters.

"This result is not only an indicator of a high degree of coordination, but also a demonstration of a common commitment to energy security," Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at a working meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

In total, 4.78 trillion tons of oil were supplied via the southern branch of the Druzhba oil pipeline last year, and 956 thousand tons of the resource were supplied in January –February 2025. Novak expressed readiness to take the necessary measures to maintain uninterrupted supplies to the Hungarian side.

In turn, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said that Budapest expects to continue cooperation in the field of energy with Moscow. He noted that he appreciates the results of the interaction.

"We welcome the ongoing implementation of the NPP construction project (nuclear power plant. — Ed.) "Paks-2" and are aimed at a dialogue on resolving issues related to the financing of the project in the face of external constraints," Szijjarto added.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on February 14 that after the European Union (EU) renounced Russian energy resources, the bloc's economic strategy needs a new plan. According to him, in 2022, the EU voluntarily deprived itself of cheap energy resources, which led to uncompetitiveness.
