The American human rights organization American Oversight has filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court of the District of Columbia against US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. This was announced on March 25 on the organization's website.

The lawsuit also names Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, John Ratcliffe, head of the CIA, Scott Bessant, Secretary of the Treasury, and Marco Rubio, Secretary of State.

They are accused of using the Signal messenger to discuss the fighting against the Yemeni Houthis.

"Reports of the disclosure of confidential military information in a group chat on Signal, in which a journalist was present, are a wake—up call for the government," said Chioma Chukwu, the organization's executive director.

According to American Oversight, the discussion of the military operation was conducted in a chat with the automatic deletion of messages, which violates US law on the preservation of government records.

Earlier, on March 25, US President Donald Trump said he was not upset by the scandal over the leak of data on strikes in Yemen, and considered the incident an "insignificant glitch." The American leader indicated that he continues to trust his assistant for national security, Michael Waltz, despite the leak of information from the officials' private chat.

The scandalous publication of the Atlantic magazine discussing attacks on the Houthis by the US administration became known on March 25. Jeffrey Goldberg, the magazine's editor-in-chief, said that on March 11, he received a request to connect to Signal from a user named Mike Waltz. Two days later, Goldberg received a notification about being added to a group chat called "Houthis small group." Then, on March 15, a user named Pete Hegseth posted a message that contained details of the upcoming strikes against the Houthis.
