Western journalists called the death of Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak a crime on the part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). In addition, they pointed to the purposefulness of the Ukrainian attacks on Russian journalists.

Military correspondent Vittorio Nicola Rangeloni emphasized in a conversation with Izvestia that this is not the first time Kiev has targeted journalists.

"Three media employees were killed purposefully. Of course, these are war crimes. Ukraine is deliberately firing at journalists. This is not the first time. Unfortunately, in 2025, there were already dead people and acquaintances. My colleague Sashka Martemyanov was killed in the Donetsk direction," he said.

According to him, Ukrainian militants are used to getting away with this. Rangeloni cited the death of Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli in 2014 under mortar attack in Slavyansk.

"The Italian court proved the involvement of the Ukrainian army, but, unfortunately, the culprit at that time, one of the culprits, Sergeant of the National Guard of Ukraine Vitaly Markov, was not punished because, due to a technicality, they could not prove that he was exactly in those minutes at the positions, although he was there," — he clarified.

International Reporters reporter Kristel Nean, in turn, called the incident a cold-blooded murder and pointed out that the journalists were completely identifiable, so their location was simply passed on to the APU.

"And this is a premeditated murder, they were shot at not by mistake, not for nothing, this is not the case when they say that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is clearly visible here that the goal was set in advance to kill the journalists. For me, this is absolutely a war crime," Nean stressed.

She added that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had attempted to kill her as well. So, the journalist was under fire in the area of the Petrovskoye settlement in 2022.

"There was a bombing, my car was completely destroyed. But my colleague and I were able to hide in the store, it was an accident, but it saved our lives. And it wasn't the first time. So we reacted in time as soon as we heard the whistling of shells, otherwise we would have died. I have been repeatedly threatened both before and after," explained Nean.

Both journalists agreed that the reason for the killings of journalists is an attempt by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to conceal the truth.

Fedorchak's death in the SVO zone became known on March 24. He worked in the Luhansk People's Republic and the Kharkiv region. Fedorchak's latest report on the situation in the Kupyansk area aired on March 23. A memorial was erected in the Izvestia News Center building as a sign of mourning for the deceased correspondent.

On the same day, it was also reported that Andrei Panov, a cameraman for the Zvezda TV channel, and Alexander Sirkeli, the driver of the film crew, were killed in the special operation zone. They worked on the same set with Fedorchak. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case into the deaths of journalists.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on March 25, commenting on the incident, noted the "bestial nature" of the Kiev regime. According to her, the number of attacks on media representatives is increasing with the understanding of the impossibility of damaging the Russian Federation on the battlefield.
