Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which two brigades and one regiment of the Russian Armed Forces were awarded the title of "guards". The relevant decrees were published on March 25 on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"For the massive heroism and bravery, fortitude and courage shown by the brigade's personnel in combat operations to protect the Fatherland and state interests in conditions of armed conflict, I decree: to assign the 89th sapper regiment the honorary name "Guards" and henceforth to refer to it as the 89th Guards Sapper Regiment," the document says.

The 140th Anti-aircraft Missile Borisov Order of Kutuzov and Zhukov Brigade and the 38th Guards Anti-aircraft Missile Order of Suvorov Brigade were awarded similar titles.

The signed documents entered into force on March 25.
