Western flower thrips discovered in Crimea

Quarantine of the western flower thrips was introduced in the greenhouse complex of the Bakhchisarai region of Crimea. This is reported by the press service of the Azov-Black Sea Interregional Administration of Rosselkhoznadzor.

The quarantine phytosanitary zone was established within the Kuibyshev rural settlement on a total area of 12 hectares. Measures should be taken to eliminate the problem, writes IA SevastopolMedia.

Western flower thrips is one of the most dangerous pests and a vector of viral plant diseases. Its harmfulness is manifested in a decrease in yield, and in flower crops — in a deterioration in decorative effect.

Earlier in January, it was reported that mice and voles had invaded Crimea. Rodents actively inhabit forest belts, roadsides, uncultivated lands and winter crops.
