An exciting astronomical event awaits Russians at the end of March — a partial solar eclipse. The Earth's satellite will cover a part of the sun's disk, which will make the star look like a flaming crescent moon. Read the Izvestia article about which cities in Russia are the best to observe the eclipse and how it affects weather-dependent people.

Date and time of the solar eclipse in March 2025

The partial solar eclipse will begin on March 29 at 11:51 Moscow time and will last for almost four hours until 15:44 Moscow time. Its maximum phase of 0.936 (a total eclipse is considered at a magnitude of 1.00) will be visible in the waters of Hudson Bay during sunrise.

Residents of Greenland, the northeastern United States and Canada will also be able to observe an eclipse of more than 0.8 magnitude. You can admire it in the early morning.

The solar eclipse will be clearly visible almost throughout Europe, but its average magnitude will range from 0.25 to 0.5. The best conditions for observation will be in Iceland, where the maximum phase of the eclipse will reach 0.73.

Solar eclipse on March 29: will it be visible in Russia

Unlike the total lunar eclipse on March 14, which passed almost unnoticed by our country, the solar eclipse on March 29 will not bypass Russia. Residents of several large cities, including two capitals, will be able to enjoy the astronomical event.

The maximum phase of the eclipse will be visible in the north-western regions of the Russian Federation. It will reach its highest value of 0.43 at about 14:44 Moscow time on the Kola Peninsula and in the north-west of the Murmansk region. Residents of some regions of Western Siberia will also get a good overview.

It will be possible to admire the incomplete solar disk in Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Yakutsk, Syktyvkar, Norilsk, Ulan-Ude and Gorno-Altaysk.

On a smaller scale, the eclipse will manifest itself in the European part of Russia. In Moscow, the maximum magnitude of the eclipse will reach 0.07 at 14:49. At the same time, the Moon will cover about 2% of the area of the solar disk. Slightly more favorable conditions for observation will develop in St. Petersburg. During the peak (14:34), the eclipse will reach 0.23, and about 13% of the surface of the sun will be behind the moon.

The eclipse will also be visible on the territory of Veliky Novgorod, Ivanovo, Kirov, Pskov, Smolensk, Tver, Yaroslavl and other cities of the European part of the country.

What you can and can't do on the day of the solar eclipse: superstitions

In ancient times, solar and lunar eclipses were perceived by people as dangerous omens. It was believed that catastrophes, wars and epidemics followed them, and at the moments when the Sun or Moon were in shadow, the time of black magic came.

From the point of view of modern science, eclipses are majestic, but not at all mystical phenomena that occur regularly and do not affect people's daily lives in any way. Nevertheless, fans of astrology attach special importance to them, associating them with various superstitions and prohibitions.

According to astrologers, during a solar eclipse, a person's rationality weakens, emotionality, impulsivity and short temper increase. There is a risk of experiencing increased irritability, mood swings, apathy, or excitability. In this regard, it is not recommended to start important cases and large-scale projects, especially if they are related to finances. According to beliefs, everything that was started during the eclipse carries the energy of chaos and can develop in an unpredictable way.

Astrologers also warn against conflicts and quarrels during a solar eclipse. Due to increased emotionality, there is a high probability of severely hurting the feelings of loved ones or destroying a relationship with a loved one.

Despite the "magical" reputation of the eclipse, astrologers emphasize the danger of conducting various rituals, and even more so the calls of "higher powers." It is believed that when the Moon obscures the light of the Sun, the line between the worlds becomes thinner, so any "witchcraft" can lead to unpredictable consequences.

During eclipses, you should also avoid overeating and alcohol abuse. Many people believe that at this time the body is most vulnerable to poisoning and exposure to toxic substances.

To survive the eclipse "without loss", astrologers advise paying attention to rest in a calm environment and moderate physical activity, such as yoga and stretching. You should not overexert yourself or do several things at the same time, as you may not have enough attention and internal resources for them.

It will be useful to put your thoughts and feelings in order, since, according to astrological forecasts, after the solar eclipse on March 29, a period of spiritual renewal and change begins. To focus on your inner world, you can resort to meditation, breathing practices, and psychological practices such as keeping a diary or writing a letter to yourself.

The effect of a solar eclipse on weather-sensitive

Many weather-sensitive people are also afraid of a solar eclipse, believing that it will affect their condition. However, scientists and doctors note that the impact of the Earth falling into the moon's shadow does not affect human health. During eclipses, there is no sudden change in the weather or the Earth's magnetic field, which causes weather-sensitive people to feel unwell. In addition, this astronomical event lasts only a few hours, and it takes longer for significant changes in the body.

Nevertheless, a solar eclipse can have a psychological impact. Due to the sudden decrease in illumination, impressionable people often experience anxiety, which, in turn, affects their well-being. And the belief in the "danger" of this phenomenon only increases stress and unpleasant symptoms. Therefore, during periods of eclipses, psychologists and doctors advise you to soberly assess your condition and not give in to panic thoughts.
