The amount of car loans in Russia has become the lowest in two years

The average amount of car loans issued in February 2025 amounted to 1.23 million rubles, which turned out to be the lowest since January 2023, the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI) reported on March 25.

Compared to the last winter month of last year, the February figure decreased by 17.3%. Compared to January of this year, it decreased by 0.5%.

The largest average amount of car loans issued in the regions of the Russian Federation was recorded in Moscow (1.64 million rubles), the Moscow Region (1.48 million rubles), St. Petersburg (1.42 million rubles), as well as in the Leningrad Region (1.41 million rubles) and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (1.36 million rubles).

Samara (-28.4%), Ulyanovsk (-24.1%) and Rostov (-23.8%) regions showed the most serious reduction in the average car loan size. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, this figure decreased by 16.1% and 18.3%, respectively, over the past year.

On March 20, it was reported that in February, banks issued 62.3 thousand car loans to Russians for 76.7 billion rubles, which is the minimum since the spring of 2023. Compared to the same period last year, the issue decreased by one and a half times.
