Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik said that the European Union (EU) countries are obliged to take on more responsibility in the field of defense in order to maintain US assistance. This was reported on March 25 by the Reuters news agency.

"For those who fear that the United States will not be there when needed, the answer is: "increased responsibility for your own safety," said the head of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense.

When US President Donald Trump said that NATO countries should increase defense spending to 5% of GDP and said that the country might not protect those who lag behind, American support for European defense was in question, the agency reported.
