Europe's escalation of the conflict in Ukraine amid negotiations between Russia and the United States may be related to corruption. Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, expressed this opinion on Tuesday, March 25.

According to the parliamentarian, the most surprising thing is that against the background of these negotiations, Europe is exacerbating the situation by the fact that Russia is allegedly going to attack them.

"You are starting to think more and more that there is an element of corruption, that now you need to explain where all the money went during this time and who participated in it together with Ukraine. It's strange that they want the conflict to continue," Zhurova said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The talks between the Russian and American expert groups in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) took place on March 24. They lasted 12 hours, clarifies 360.ru .

Grigory Karasin, a member of the Russian delegation and chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, described the meeting as a difficult but useful dialogue, RT reports. According to him, during the negotiations, the parties raised many issues, but not all were resolved.

On March 25, Russian Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the contents of the talks between the Russian and American delegations in Riyadh would not be made public.

Earlier, on March 23, Michael Waltz, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security, said that Moscow and Washington would discuss territorial issues, as well as the cessation of hostilities in the Black Sea and the resumption of trade along it.
