A Swiss court has acquitted former FIFA President Joseph Blatter and former UEFA president Michel Platini on charges of fraud and misuse of funds. France24 told about it on March 25.

"Former football officials were acquitted for the second time on charges of fraud, forgery of documents, improper management and misappropriation of more than $2 million from FIFA funds in 2011," the newspaper reports.

The prosecutor's office charged Blatter and Platini with an illegal payment from FIFA, the amount of which amounted to about $ 2.2 million. However, the football officials were acquitted in July 2022, after which an appeal was filed against the court's decision.

Sport-Express clarifies that in December 2015, Blatter and Platini were suspended from football activities for eight years. Later, Blatter's suspension was reduced to six years, and Platini's to four years.

On November 26, the governor of the Samara Region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, announced at the State Council of the Russian Federation Commission on sports development that he had learned about the debt of the Krylia Sovetov football club in the amount of 36 million rubles to "criminals who are engaged in corruption in the refereeing corps of Russian football." According to him, such a system has been in operation for several years. The governor proposed to refuse to finance it at the expense of taxpayers.

After that, Fedorishchev handed over the facts of the corruption schemes to the police. At the same time, he expressed disappointment that the clubs of the Russian Premier League (RPL) had asked for confirmation, and stressed that he was in favor of "clean sport." Later, on December 4, the Russian Interior Ministry announced the start of the inspection after Fedorishchev's words.
