The senator cited the reason for the lack of a joint statement after the negotiations between the Russian Federation and the United States.

Following the talks between Russia and the United States in Riyadh, a joint statement was not adopted due to Ukraine's position. This was announced on March 25 by Vladimir Chizhov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security.

"They sat for 12 hours and seemed to have agreed on a joint statement, which, however, was not adopted because of Ukraine's position, which is also very characteristic and symptomatic," he said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

Chizhov did not disclose the details of the negotiations and suggested waiting for the moment when they become public. The Deputy chairman also called the meeting in Riyadh a link in the chain of Russian-American contacts, which began with a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing that Russia and the United States would continue contacts after talks in Saudi Arabia. Peskov added that there is no talk of trilateral meetings with the participation of Moscow, Washington and Kiev yet.
