The court allowed the Estonian Orthodox Church to change its name

The Tartu County Court has allowed the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarch (EOC MP) to change its name to the Estonian Christian Orthodox Church. This was announced on March 25 by the Estonian portal ERR.
"Over the past year, we have had to face hostility because of our canonical ties with the Moscow Patriarchate, which is associated with the former name of our church," the portal quoted Bishop Daniel as saying.
In January of this year, the EPC MP decided to change its name to the Estonian Orthodox Church. However, the corresponding application was refused. He was argued that such a name does not cover all Orthodox Christians in Estonia and is therefore misleading.
Later, the EPC MP chose the name Estonian Christian Orthodox Church, but registration was again refused for the same reasons. No other shortcomings were identified in the application. Subsequently, the court upheld the church's complaint. According to the resolution, the new name complies with the law and does not mislead about the purpose, scope or legal form of the church.
Earlier, on January 8, it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia is developing a bill on the termination of the activities of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. It is specified that the parliament may adopt the law in April.
