Many students start working in parallel with their studies in the first year. Some want to gain financial independence, while others seek to gain professional experience as early as possible. Ekaterina Bolotova, an expert on career guidance and career strategies at the Career Academy MAXIMUM Education, told Izvestia on March 27 about suitable vacancies for students and whether freshmen should work.

She noted that the learning process in the first year requires a period of adaptation, especially in the context of new learning formats and large amounts of information. With improper planning, work can negatively affect academic performance, and trying to combine everything at once, the student runs the risk of burning out quickly. It is important to assess your strength and not overload yourself, the specialist emphasized.

"It's best to choose a job with a flexible schedule or a part-time job that won't interfere with your studies. Freelance writing, translation of articles, design or programming may be a suitable option for a novice specialist," Bolotova said.

She also recommended that students try tutoring if they know their school subjects well. Another suitable option is to work in the service sector: barista, waiter or cashier. These positions usually offer a shift schedule, which allows you to combine study and part-time work, the specialist explained.

"Internships are a great career start. Large companies are increasingly organizing internships in their field and raising specialists within the team. This is a chance for students to gain practical experience in their chosen field and start a career under the guidance of experienced professionals. In some cases, internships are paid," Bolotova added.

The expert noted that such internships can be difficult for first-year students due to the high workload at the university. However, from the second or third year, when the learning process becomes more structured, participation in such programs can significantly accelerate professional development.

She added that it is important for a freshman not to overload himself. If you have the opportunity to choose between working for money and working part-time in your specialty, you should choose the latter in order to gradually begin to develop in your field of interests. Such experience will give an advantage in the future, she noted.

"Before starting a job, you need to discuss its terms with the employer: some companies are ready to adjust the schedule for the learning process, especially if they see the motivation of the student and the desire to study," the expert added.

Bolotova recommended starting a career after the 2nd or 3rd year, when the student is already accustomed to the learning process and is able to distribute the workload competently.

Earlier, on January 26, in the results of the financial marketplace research, "I will choose.<url> reported that more than 30% of Russians surveyed approved of the interest of schoolchildren in part-time work. At the same time, only 62% of respondents loyal to school part-time jobs admitted that they raise their children in this way.
