Mass media reported massive power outage in southeastern Mexico

A large-scale blackout occurred on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, affecting popular resort areas, including the islands of Cozumel and Mujeres. This was reported by the Milenio newspaper on March 24.
According to the newspaper, Cancun, Bacalar, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel were left without electricity. Light has been partially restored in some areas, but interruptions persist.
"Power outages have also caused difficulties in traffic, shops and daily activities," the article clarifies.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and local authorities have not yet announced the official causes and extent of the power outage.
On March 15, it was reported that a failure occurred in Cuba at the Diesmero substation, which led to a significant loss of generation in western Cuba, and with it to the failure of the National Electric System (SEN).
