The XXXVIII ceremony of awarding the National Cinematographic Award "Nika" took place in Moscow on March 24. The winners took awards in almost two dozen nominations. The film "The Master and Margarita" with Evgeny Tsyganov and Yulia Snigir, who were named the best actor and actress, but declined statuettes in favor of others, became a triumph. Yura Borisov followed suit. The drama "Air", despite a record number of nominations, did not receive a single "Nickname". The 38th ceremony was hosted, as last year, by the capital's Maska Theater, where, according to tradition, the award ceremony was preceded by a blue carpet. Dozens of cameras lined up there, waiting for the main characters of the evening.

Elena Lyadova, who was nominated for "Best Supporting Actress" in the military drama "Air", chose a black tweed dress with a short full skirt for her appearance. She was accompanied at a social event by Vladimir Vdovichenkov, who admitted that he had watched her work more than once.

— I cried, I was inspired. Good movie! I think this film has a great future. Let the current generation watch and admire the heroism of their mothers, grandmothers, and grandfathers," the actor said.

—The Air is an important painting for a generation that is not familiar with the heroism of women during the Great Patriotic War," Elena Lyadova added.

This evening, the actress added to the collection. She won the award for "Best Actress" in the film "The Master and Margarita". To match the "hooligan" image, she also hooliganized a little — she announced that she was handing over her statuette to actress Marianne Schultz, whose work in the film "Era" she was impressed with (the tape did not participate in the competition).

The wife of the actress Evgeny Tsyganov was named the best actor for the role of the Master. He continued the trend. In a gentlemanly manner, he announced that he was handing over his statuette in favor of Yulia Snigir. However, he shared the victory in the Best Actor category with Yura Borisov, who recently sparkled at the Oscars with Anora, and was nominated here for the film Summer Will End. For that matter, he also promised to give his statuette to his wife, who supported him in the auditorium.

The film adaptation of Bulgakov's novel became a triumph of "Niki". There are seven awards in total. In addition to the above—mentioned awards - for the best work of a costume designer, the best work of an artist, the work of a sound engineer and a cameraman.

In addition, the film won the main nomination — "Best Feature Film", ahead of Alexey German Jr.'s "Air", which was the record holder this year for the number of nominations - nine; "Summer will End" by Vladimir Munkuyev and Maxim Arbugaev, "Snow in my Yard" by Bakur Bakuradze, "Look at me!" by Vladimir Grammatikov. The latter, however, won the statuette in the "Best Screenplay" nomination.

The mood of the ceremony was set by Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" performed by the orchestra, which was accompanied by archival footage of Nika throughout its long history. With the last chord, the founder of the award, Yuli Gusman, came on stage and greeted the audience. But the ceremony was entrusted to the younger generation of cinema representatives. Among others, Nika Zdorik and Sergey Gorodnichy, whose union became popular with the public thanks to the hit New Year's series "Lilies of the Valley. Such a tender love."

By the way, for the first time in the history of the award, the nomination "Best TV Series" appeared. Last season's projects claimed the statuette: "Children of Change" with Slava Kopeikin and Victoria Isakova about the dashing 90s, "Number One" with Evgeny Tsyganov as the editor of a glossy magazine, a provocative adaptation of "Crime and Punishment" with Ivan Yankovsky, the historical drama "Stolypin" with Alexander Ustyugov, the detective "Highway" with Karina Razumovskaya and "Plevako" with Sergey Bezrukov as a brilliant lawyer. The last one won.

The best non-fiction film was "Lexo" directed by Olesya Fokina about pianist Alexander Toradze. The victory in the nomination "Best animated film" was won by "Luntik. Homecoming" by Konstantin Bronzit.

— This is my seventh nomination and the third "Nickname". Taking advantage of this position, colleagues, do not bump our heads — short and full-length animation. And secondly, why can't such a cool cartoon compete for the top movie of the year? The cartoon has the right! He's cool. They'll give you the papers now, we'll re—vote," Bronzit joked from the stage.

The drama "Summer will End" with Yura Borisov won the Best Editing Director award. Bakur Bakuradze's "Snow in My Yard" was named the "Best Director's work". "Discovery of the Year" — "Dad died on Saturday" by Zaki Abdrakhmanova. Alexey Rybnikov won the nomination "Best Film Music" for his work in the film "9 Seconds".

"You need to exercise and not overeat"

A special award for his contribution to cinematographic sciences, criticism and education was presented to the rector of VGIK Vladimir Malyshev. The honorary prize "Honor and Dignity" is awarded to Alexander Zatsepin, who turned 99 in March. The author of legendary songs from the Soviet films "We Don't Care", "If I were a Sultan" and many others was greeted by the audience with prolonged standing ovation. His colleague in the creative workshop, Maxim Dunaevsky, presented the statuette, singing his version of the song "There is only a moment."

— If you were working with Zatsepin at that moment, know, director, you have not lived your life in vain! Maxim Dunaevsky sang.

— I get goosebumps, but not from you, but from "Niki". I am very pleased to receive it! — the laureate joked in response. — I'm optimistic, I'm working hard, I've done four musicals, and now I have to do ballet. My head is working, my memory is there, so are my eyes and ears, and my legs are walking. What else is needed? It is necessary to exercise in the morning, and not overeat is the most important thing.

Several awards were awarded posthumously. Evgenia Dobrovolskaya, who died in January 2025, was awarded the "Niki" for "Best Supporting Actress" for her work in the film "The Worst of All". "The best supporting actor" was played by Roman Madyanov in the film "Love of the Soviet Union". The statuette was awarded to the actor's son. He recalled that on March 25, the day after the ceremony, it was exactly six months since his father died, and noted that it would be nice for him. A minute of silence was observed in memory of the departed colleagues.
