- The permanent mission of the Russian Federation stated the need to rethink the work of UN peacekeepers
Anna Evstigneeva, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, said that the activities of UN peacekeepers need to be rethought and improved.
"The UN's peacekeeping and political activities need to be rethought, improved and returned to realistic scenarios," TASS quoted her as saying.
Now, according to her, the effectiveness of peacekeeping missions is insufficient due to "attempts to justify themselves" by the UN countries. Russia, as noted by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation, is convinced of the need for an objective analysis of the work of peacekeepers.
According to Evstigneeva, the UN needs to use its accumulated experience to help states in need prevent conflicts and find a unique solution for each situation.
Earlier, on March 20, the media reported on the plans of European countries to meet in Paris to discuss the situation in Ukraine. The Times newspaper reported on March 16 that Ukraine's allies want to send over 10,000 peacekeepers to the country. Unnamed senior sources in the British government said that the country's Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, had enlisted the support of a significantly larger number of states willing to provide ground troops.
