In the port of Ust-Luga, Leningrad region, almost 30 thousand tons of fuel oil were pumped out of the foreign tanker Koala after an explosion in the engine room. This was reported on March 24 in Rosmorrechflot.

It is specified that the second stage of oil products pumping will begin on March 25.

"The work is being carried out by specialists from the Baltic branch of the Maritime Rescue Service together with contractors," Rosmorrechflot's Telegram channel says.

Before pumping out the fuel oil, the rescuers completely repaired the damage to the hull, disassembled and repaired the mechanisms and electric motors, and prepared the systems for unloading. To seal the damage to the vessel, the divers of the Maritime Rescue Service performed 158 dives.

On February 9, it was reported that the Koala tanker, carrying 130 thousand tons of fuel oil, sank in the port of Ust-Luga. Later, the governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, said that the ship's engine had failed, resulting in damage to the engine room. He noted that the tanker is moored at the pier, and there is no threat of an oil spill.
