The cause of the Mi-8T helicopter crash in Kamchatka on August 31, 2024, when 22 people died, was poor visibility. This is stated in the conclusion of the Interstate Aviation Committee.
The accident with the aircraft occurred in the afternoon during the flight of the Vityaz-Aero Mi-8T helicopter in a mountainous area with limited visibility. Because of her, the ship collided with the side of the mountain.
"According to available information, there were three crew members and 19 passengers on board. As a result of the accident, the helicopter was completely destroyed," the agency's website reported.
It is noted that the flight was carried out in meteorological conditions that did not comply with the rules. Among the 22 dead were the financial director of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Arseniy Zamyatin and his wife.
The Vityaz-Aero Mi-8T helicopter disappeared from radar on August 31. His wreckage was found on September 1 in Kamchatka.
A criminal case was opened under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of an air vehicle, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence"). Vityaz-Aero was stripped of its certificate.
