A criminal case has been opened into the shelling of the Holy Trinity Church located in the city of Sudzha, Kursk region. This was announced on March 24 by the press service of the Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

"The Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under paragraphs "a", "b" of Part 2 of Article 205, Part 1 of Article 243 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"; "Destruction or damage of cultural heritage sites (historical and cultural monuments)")," she informed the press service of the department.

The investigation revealed that in March 2025, militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) purposefully fired at the Holy Trinity Church. This building is a cultural heritage site. The temple was damaged and partially destroyed due to the shelling.

Upon the incident, as part of the investigative work, the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who are involved in the crime, will be identified and brought to justice.

Earlier in the day, Izvestia published footage of a bell ringing that rang out over Suja for the first time after her release. Each of the bells of the Holy Trinity Church was rung by a theroborona fighter with the call sign Desnai.
