Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 24 that the Kremlin was not disclosing details about Vladimir Putin's personal gifts.

"The only thing I can tell you is that it was an absolutely personal gift that the president gave to his American counterpart," Peskov said, answering a question about handing over to US President Donald Trump his portrait painted by a Russian artist.

Peskov also added that the details can only be disclosed by Putin's own decision.

Earlier, on March 22, Stephen Witkoff, the US president's special envoy for the Middle East, said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that Putin had given Trump his portrait, which was painted by a Russian artist. Witkoff added that after handing over the portrait, he brought and gave it to the President of the United States.

On the same day, Russian artist Nikas Safronov said that the portrait presented by Putin to Trump is an invaluable work of art. According to him, painters rarely comment on their work and, as a rule, do not disclose the identity of those for whom the paintings were created.
