Russians spend more money on animal feed than on a cup of coffee. And milk has become one of the most popular products in all regions. And only in the North Caucasus region are energy drinks in the lead. The research company NTech came to these conclusions, and Izvestia got acquainted with the survey results on March 25.

The company producing chips is the leader in the NTech-500 rating. Meat products took the silver. And the dairy brand is in third place. Juices are firmly in fourth position. And sausages and boiled sausages are consistently among the top five best-selling products.

At the same time, baby food brands have rapidly broken into the top 10. The chicken of one of the popular brands has also soared by eight positions. And energy drinks have been in high demand among Russians for two years now and consistently occupy the ninth place in the rating.

Animal feed dropped out of the top ten. In 2024, Russians spent more money on animal feed on average than on coffee brands. Despite the fact that sales of a major coffee brand have grown significantly in 2024, and it has moved from 42nd to 14th place in the rating.

In addition to the top 500 food brands throughout Russia, there are also ratings for individual federal districts, category ratings (ready meals, baby food, eggs, fish products, etc.), group ratings (milk, dairy desserts, fish, canned fish, etc.) and the STM/ETM rating (proprietary and exclusive trademarks networks).

Using this data, you can see which products and product groups are most popular among Russians in a particular federal district. Or which brand of water Russians prefer to buy. If you look at sales by federal district, it becomes clear that federal brands have mostly displaced local brands in the Southern Federal District (SFD), the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) and the Northern Federal District (SFD), with relative parity recorded in the Central Federal District (CFD) and the Ural Federal District (UFD), and the only region where the opposite situation is observed is Moscow and the Moscow Region.

In almost all federal districts, people most often buy milk, and only in the North Caucasus Federal District do energy drinks outpace dairy products in terms of sales.

On February 22, Adelina Muryasova, managing director and co-founder of the GASTRO CLINIC, told Izvestia about lactose intolerance and how to eliminate it. According to her, even people who used to calmly digest dairy products face unpleasant symptoms. She noted that among the main symptoms are gas formation, bloating and diarrhea. The expert called taking enzymes one of the ways to eliminate intolerance.
