Over the past weekend, 385 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 46 people were killed and 504 injured. 12 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 24 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 109 road accidents, 34 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 75 outside their area of operation, 12 pedestrians were killed, and 98 more were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 14 child pedestrians among the injured. Four of the injured children were injured at pedestrian crossings.

17 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 29 more road users, including one child passenger, required medical assistance. The reason for 10 bus accidents was traffic violations by drivers of other vehicles.

In the Republic of Mari El, on 40 km of the Yoshkar-Ola—Urzhum regional highway, a passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with a bus carrying a shift of workers consisting of 16 people. As a result of the accident, the driver of the car ended up in the hospital with injuries, nine passengers of the bus were injured and, after receiving medical care, were sent for outpatient treatment. The driver's license was not previously issued to the culprit of the collision.

49 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 64 young road users were injured, including 55 child passengers. Two children were killed, one of whom was a pedestrian, the other a passenger in a passenger car. For example, in Moscow, a truck driver at a controlled intersection, when turning right at a traffic light, ran over an 11-year-old pedestrian crossing the roadway at a controlled pedestrian crossing at a traffic light. The boy, who was unaccompanied by adults, died.

In the Tula region, on 196 km of the M-4 Don federal highway, a female passenger car driver lost control and crashed into a metal barrier fence on the road. A two-year-old boy died in the accident, who was in the back row of seats on the lap of one of the other passengers in the car. The female driver herself and four other passengers were injured, including three minors born in 2012, 2013 and 2018. All the injured were hospitalized.

In addition, in the Tula region, on 198 km of the federal highway M-2 "Crimea", a passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane and provoked a massive accident by colliding with another passenger car on the oncoming lane. After being hit, the second car drove into the oncoming lane, where it collided with two more passenger cars in turn, after which all three vehicles left the road.

As a result of the accident, a female passenger of the vehicle that the culprit of the car accident collided with was killed, and the driver and two other passengers (boys born in 2013 and 2022) were hospitalized with injuries. The driver and four passengers of the second car trapped in the ditch were also injured in the car accident and were hospitalized, while two of the injured passengers were the driver's sons, born in 2019 and 2022. In the third of the cars that left the road, a minor passenger (a boy born in 2022) also needed medical help, after which he was sent for outpatient treatment.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds that during the spring school holidays, drivers should be more careful on the roads of towns and cities. With the beginning of the school break, many children appeared on the streets. It is important to take into account the requirements of markings, road signs, and traffic lights. Special care should be taken when passing intersections and approaching pedestrian crossings. You need to slow down in front of them until you come to a complete stop in order to allow pedestrians crossing the roadway to pass and not rush to resume traffic even at the allowing traffic light signal — you should make sure that the crossing is completely free of pedestrians.

"We remind parents to monitor the leisure time and behavior of their young children during the holidays. Do not let them go outside alone, unattended, especially in the evening. Take walks with them, accompany them to educational classes in clubs and sports sections. To improve the visibility of young pedestrians to drivers of vehicles at night, be sure to use retroreflective elements on children's outerwear. The lack of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

On March 14, it was reported that a group of 97 State Duma deputies appealed to the Constitutional Court against the amendments to the Administrative Code, which increased fines for widespread traffic violations by 1.5–2 times from January 1, 2025, and reduced the discount for prompt payment of resolutions from 50 to 25%.
