You can solve the problem of non-acceptance of new banknotes by ATM machines by updating the ATM fleet and gaining access to the software. Alexey Voylukov, MBA Professor of Business Practice in Digital Finance at RANEPA and former Vice President of the Association of Banks of Russia, told Izvestia on March 24.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that ATMs do not accept new five thousandth notes. This is a problem faced by customers who use Alfa-Bank and VTB devices.

"Currently, it is possible to prepare ATMs by reconfiguring the software. However, access to this software is not always possible, as it is a trade secret of the manufacturers, and its modification requires significant costs," explained Voylukov.

According to him, if it is not possible to upgrade old ATMs, they are decommissioned and new ones are purchased. For example, Korean manufacturers agree in advance that all types of banknotes can be used at ATMs.

"When other updated banknotes are put into mass circulation, the problem of ATM acceptance may recur. But over time, the ATM fleet is being updated, and if it is still possible to access the software, then it is much easier to download a new image of the bill again," Voilukov summed up.

Last year, on November 28, the Central Bank provided image options for a 1,000-ruble bill. The head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Elvira Nabiullina, announced that the new option would be chosen by popular vote.
