- Regions of the Russian Federation will be able to receive subsidies for the creation of sewage treatment plants near Lake Baikal

Russian regions will be able to receive subsidies for the creation of sewage treatment plants near Lake Baikal. This was announced on March 24 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
He clarified that this initiative concerns two subjects — Buryatia and Irkutsk region.
"As the President [of Russia Vladimir Putin] noted in his message to the Federal Assembly, when creating a modern safe infrastructure on Lake Baikal, it is important to strictly adhere to the principle of "zero pollution", that is, the complete absence of waste and untreated wastewater into the lake," Mishustin said.
He also stressed the importance of monitoring the performance of works and the condition of protected areas.
According to the Prime Minister, the federal budget for the next three years provides for more than 9.5 billion rubles for the reconstruction and construction of sewage treatment plants near Lake Baikal.
"We hope that all these measures will improve the ecological condition of Lake Baikal, which, of course, will have a positive impact on the environment, as well as on the quality of life for local citizens and tourists," said the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
It is noted that the work is carried out within the framework of the national project "Environmental well-being" and the federal project "Water of Russia".
On February 12, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev announced the importance of completing work on wastewater treatment plants.
