The visit of the US delegation to Greenland shows a lack of respect for the inhabitants of the island. This was announced on Sunday, March 23, by the chairman of the Demokraatit party, Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

"The fact that the Americans are well aware that we are in negotiations and that we have not yet completed the municipal elections, but they are still using the opportunity to come to Greenland, once again demonstrates disrespect for the people of Greenland," Sermitsiaq quoted the politician as saying.

The outgoing chairman of the island's government, Mute Egede, called the visit a "provocation."

The American delegation, which will include Usha Vance, the wife of US Vice President Jay Dee Vance, will visit Greenland on March 27-29.

Prior to that, on March 12, the British newspaper The Times reported that the victory of the Greenlandic Democrats party, which advocates the gradual independence of the island, in the parliamentary elections showed that the locals do not want Greenland to join the United States, as the American leader wants.
