The baby's body was found in the basement of a residential building in Kolomna.

In Kolomna, a baby's body was found in the basement of an apartment building, and a criminal case has been opened. This was reported on March 23 in the press service of the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow region.

"During the work carried out by a locksmith to clean the sewage system in the basement of a residential apartment building <...>, a baby's body was found in one of the pipes," the department's Telegram channel said.

A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of a crime under Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder of a newborn child by a mother"). Investigators are establishing the identity and location of the woman.

Earlier, on March 14, it was reported that the Leninsky District Court of Nizhny Tagil had detained a 36-year-old woman who had abandoned her newborn son on a bench in the cold. The woman is charged under part 3 of art. 30, art. 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder of a newborn"). According to the Sverdlovsk court, she will be in custody until May 3 of this year.
