- The Chancellor of the Exchequer of Great Britain proposed to dismiss 10 thousand civil servants

The UK government intends to massively reduce the number of civil servants amid economic problems. This was announced on March 23 by the country's Finance Minister Rachel Reeves. According to her estimates, about 10 thousand people may lose their jobs.
"I am sure that we will be able to reduce the number of civil servants by 10,000 people," Reeves said, her words are reported by Sky News.
She stressed that some tasks that previously required human involvement can now be "performed by technology." The latter, according to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, are already helping to fight fraud and corruption.
"Each department will determine its own plans. But I'd rather have people working in our schools, hospitals, and police than in offices," Reeves said.
The Minister also noted that as part of the upcoming optimization, travel expenses of employees, expenses for consultants and communications will be reduced.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people working in public service has increased significantly. It was the right response to those challenges. But it's wrong that we just keep these numbers," the official concluded.
British politician David Frost said on February 6 that the UK was on the verge of bankruptcy. According to him, all possible ways to replenish the budget worsen the economic situation. Frost stressed that the country's GDP is rapidly falling due to high fuel prices, uncontrolled migration, as well as the post-crisis economic shock.
