A group of employees of the Voice of America radio station (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) filed a lawsuit against the administration of US President Donald Trump after allegedly illegally shutting down the media. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on March 22.

"Six journalists from the Voice of America <...> sued members of the Trump administration on Friday (March 21. — Ed.), accusing officials of illegally shutting down a federally funded media outlet," the newspaper writes.

It is clarified that the lawsuit was filed in a New York court. According to the plaintiffs, the closure of the radio station is illegal. They also demanded the restoration of the media in their statement.

Earlier, on March 16, it was reported that Voice of America and Radio Liberty (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) suspended their work after the decision of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) to stop financing them. This was due to Trump's executive order to cut government spending.

On March 14, the White House announced that the American leader had signed a decree reducing the functions and work of employees of several departments to combat bureaucracy, including the USAGM. This agency coordinates the work of US-funded media outlets, including Voice of America.
