The expert recommended diabetics to give up sweet fortified wines

Fortified wines with the addition of grape alcohol contain a lot of sugar, which in combination with alcohol overloads the pancreas and liver. This was announced on March 22 by Georgy Suslyanok, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Bioorganic Synthesis at ROSBIOTECH University.
"It is important to remember that excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to health. However, there are also useful properties. For example, wine improves metabolism, fights free radicals and premature cell aging, prevents the formation of blood clots, strengthens the heart muscle, promotes digestion and normalizes the level of acidity in the stomach," said Suslyanok in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».
According to him, wines in which alcohol is formed during the fermentation of raw materials are called natural. Fortified wines are also high in sugar, so it is recommended that people with diabetes avoid them.
The expert specified that dessert semi—sweet wine can contain from 50 to 120 g of sugar per 1 liter, and sweet - about 150 g.
Earlier, on March 17 last year, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported that from April 1, 2025, the national standard GOST R "Catering services. Recommendations on the development, design and content of wine lists". GOST, which for the first time describes in detail the best practices for the design of wine lists at catering establishments, was approved by order of Rosstandart on November 11.
