In the United States, the former prosecutor of the state of Virginia, 43-year-old Jessica Aber, was found dead in her home. This was reported on March 22 by The Washington Post (WP).

Jessica Aber, an experienced prosecutor who became one of the few women to head the prestigious U.S. Attorney's Office in Northern Virginia, died at night at her home in Alexandria, her former colleagues said.

The woman was nominated for the position on the initiative of the 46th President of the United States Joe Biden in 2021. Two months before her death, Aber resigned her prosecutorial powers "to enable President [of the United States] Donald Trump to choose her successor," WP recalls.

"While we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will follow her example and strive to live up to that standard. Jess was a proud resident of Virginia from high school to college and throughout her career. <...> We remain committed to her life's work, striving for justice as she would like," said Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) Eric Siebert.

On February 3, US President Donald Trump announced the appointment of Joe Kent as head of the National Counterterrorism Center. Trump noted that Kent knows the "terrible cost of terrorism" — his wife was killed in the fight against the terrorist group Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia).
