Residents of the town of Drokia in the north of the Republic of Moldova solemnly celebrated the 81st anniversary of liberation from fascism. This was announced on March 22 by the press service of the opposition bloc Pobeda in the Telegram channel.
"Representatives of the Pobeda bloc, together with the residents of Drokia, honored the memory of the heroes. To the sounds of the legendary Katusha, we laid flowers at the monument to the liberating soldiers. Our young activists performed a dance in honor of those who fought for their Homeland," reads the published statement.
The event included a procession, a concert program, the laying of a flower at the monument to the soldiers-liberators, as well as the "Candle of Memory" campaign.
"The day ended with the Candle of Remembrance campaign. Representatives of our youth wing laid out the word "Victory" and the date of the liberation of Drokia with lights. The memory of heroes is a light that does not go out," the representatives of the block clarified the details.
After the end of the action, the deputies from Pobeda visited Dmitry Korolenko, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, who went to the front at the age of 18.
The Hungarian town of Szekesfehervar, which was liberated by the Red Army 80 years ago, is also celebrating the anniversary of its liberation today. The troops of the 21st Soviet Guards Rifle Corps, advancing from the north-northeast, entered Szekesfehervar. Fierce battles were taking place in the streets with the remaining troops of the 5th SS Panzer Division Viking, who were retreating step by step to the southwestern part of the city. During the fighting, Szekesfehervar was seriously damaged. Of the 7842 buildings, 813 were completely destroyed. 2,788 buildings were seriously damaged, making them uninhabitable.
