Mikhalkov spoke about the reasons for the establishment of the Eurasian Film Award

The Oscar has ceased to have real value due to excessive politicization, so it was decided to create the Eurasian Film Academy and establish its own film award. This was announced on Saturday, March 22, by Russian film director and actor Nikita Mikhalkov, answering a question from Izvestia.
"[In 1994] there was another Oscar. It was a different country (USA — Ed.). After all, cinema was judged, not politics. <...> Everything has changed a lot today. That's why we decided to organize the Eurasian Film Academy," he said at the creative evening "Territory of my Love."
The film director recalled that China, Iran and neighboring countries will be able to join the Eurasian Film Academy.
"I really believe that for this award we will take those paintings that correspond to the human spirit, human traditions and man as God's being. Therefore, we want to do this separately, and God willing, we will do it," Mikhalkov concluded.
On behalf of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, the film director announced a proposal to create the Eurasian Film Academy and award the Eurasian Oscar. Eurasianism as an idea for uniting people was discussed by the participants of the First Eurasian Economic Forum in Bishkek on May 26.
On December 27, 2024, Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova told Izvestia that invitations to become part of the Eurasian Film Academy and Film Awards had been sent to Cuba, Venezuela, Serbia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Turkey and Syria, among others. She added that China has documented its participation in the project. Iran, Kazakhstan and South Africa noted the importance of the event and gave preliminary consent.
